Was erebor rebuilt?Įrebor in The Lord of the Rings Dale was rebuilt under Bard’s leadership, and Dwarves and Men reforged their friendship. 1981.Īfter Thorin’s death, his cousin Dáin II Ironfoot of the Iron Hills became king of Durin’s folk and when news reached Durin’s folk in the Ered Luin that Erebor was retaken, it is believed that most of them moved to the Lonely Mountain. Thráin I (Third Age 1934 – 2190, died aged 256) was the King of Durin’s Folk for 209 years, succeeding his father, Náin I, when he was killed by the Balrog in T.A. For the father of Thorin II Oakenshield, see Thráin II. This article is about Thráin I, the first King under the Mountain. Who was the first King under the Mountain? When Smaug was slain in 2941, Dáin Ironfoot became King Dáin II and the kingdom was restored. Though I believe the confusion is that both Fili and Kili "had fallen defending him with shield and body" making there no need for Tolkien to inform us of what happened if they lived. Since Thorin has no children, Fili, being Thorin's sister's oldest son, would be the heir. Ought we rephrase the article so as not to state it positively? Tolkien only states that Dain was the rightful heir after saying that both Kili and Fili died along with Thorin.- KingAragorn talk contribs edits email 13:26, 21 June 2014 (UTC) But Dáin Ironfoot, his cousin, who came from the Iron Hills to his aid and was also his rightful heir, became then King Dáin I. However, it could be implied from the ordering of sentences like this: "There fell also Fíli and Kíli, his sister-sons. But you're right in that Tolkien never explicitly said so. I think it's a fair assumption that Fili was Thorin's heir. Does anyone have more information on this than I do? It is possible that in Dwarf culture the succession could not pass through the female line (Dis), and thus Fili would not be his uncle's heir, though he is closest of kin. I do not recall any such statement anywhere in the legendarium, though Tolkien refers to Dain Ironfoot as Thorin's heir. On the Fili page it states that he is Thorin's heir and should become King under the Mountain after his uncle's death. Tolkien Gateway > Forums > Fili-future King under the Mountain?
